A cheap metal wheel tutorial
As a techie, you must be aware that metal conducts and also what is its significance in every day’s affair. This project aims to make use of the metal and its role in conductivity to develop an affordable metal wheel. All the newbies must understand that this project includes hammering, so be careful with it. Now, you need to assemble some metal bottle caps, a geared motor to develop torque to move your robot, a sturdy Phillips screwdriver, a normal hammer, a thumb-tack, a pair of pliers, a hot-glue gun.
Do assemble a piece of scrap wood to keep your hammer counters un-marred. A tiny hole is made with the help of thumb-tack, hammer, pliers, bottle cap, and scrap wood. As the bottle cap is placed face-down on the wood, it is puncture out from inside and the motor can rest inside the cap when added.
The pliers are used to hold the thumb-tack and therefore the point is as close to the center of the cap. Make sure you use the pliers to hold the tack and do your best to eyeball it; otherwise it is likely that you will smash your hand.
Now, the bottle cap is faced down as this will push the puncture out from inside the cap. Use a Phillips screwdriver for neat cross-shaped hole. The little metal bits that come out allow holding the grip of the shaft of the motor and holding it better than the hot-glue.
The motor shaft must fit inside the hole and in case the hole is too big, your fit will be looser. After various failed attempts, you will get your cross-hole to just the right size. Now it is assembly time and it starts with assembling motor and wheel together. Depending on how exactly the wheel grab a motor shift, you can expect something really amazing.
