Airbus introduced a modular electric concept vehicle system, Pop.Up. at the 87th Geneva International Motor Show in association with Italdesign. The system was designed with intent to relieve traffic congestion in the overcrowded large sized cities. This design came up after a joint effort between Airbus and Italdesign on how to take care of mobility related challenges in large cities, it is one of the most concerning issues these days all over the globe. As traffic congestion is expected to get too high by year 2030, these two companies came together by fusing their engineering prowess and formulate a modular, multimodal, sustainable urban mobility system.
The Pop.Up system mainly has three components – :
● A completely man made intelligence platform that can manage travel and provides optional usage scenarios.
● An automotive shaped like a passenger capsule made to be coupled with two independent and different electrically operated modules i.e. the ground and the air module. Other normal transportation medium can also integrate with Pop.Up capsules.
● An interface unit that interacts with users in a completely virtual environment
The Pop.Up framework aims to blend the adjustability of a mini sized two seater ground vehicle that has speed and freedom of a vertical take-off as well as a landing air vehicle, this bridges the aerospace and automotive domains with each other. The modus operandi of Pop.Up is very basic. Passengers decide their destinations and book the trip through an app. The system suggests the best transportation medium automatically that is in accordance with the knowledge, costs, ridesharing demands, etc of the user. This joins the air and ground module to the passenger capsule as per passenger’s preferences and requirements.
