Raspberry users have been quite active in turning almost all kind of stuff into Internet of Things (IoT) objects be it cat flaps, lorries, oe beer fridges. The latest one in this series is a boat. If you can setup a connectivity between your Raspberry Pi system and Amazon’s Alexa, setting off an alarm for a simple physical task would be much simpler. Ufuk Arslan was able to automate a few tasks in his boat with the help of this technique.
He had a bad habit of forgetting to switch off lights as and when he left for home. This lead to early draining out of batteries within sometime. The initial part of this project was dedicated to simply switching off of lights. However, soon he realized the scope and now the boat has several tasks automated as Ufuk engineered worked diligently to turn this boat into a disembodied deck hand. The best thing done to this boat is wiring of the anchor winch with the system.
The only thing he recommends is keeping a close tab on poles, colors, and cables. One can easily cross connect the wires and cables that can lead to short-circuits or forever running of winches. The result will be an easy voice-control command over different systems of the boat. As per him, it is just the beginning and he plans to make several other modifications to this project in coming days. We will be excited to see the new modifications and report you shortly what more has been done.
