Instructable user GreatScottLab had desired to devise an Ambient Lighting System for his TV using Raspberry Pi. He starts working on this DIY as soon as he acquires a WS2801 LED strip. The videos articulate in detail how he constructed the system and then updated it. In one of them, there is a demonstration of how to position and solder the led strip, and how to install the Raspbmc on the SD Card. Another one concentrates solely on the Boblight plugin and connecting the GPIO headers to the strip. In the last one the project is optimized, packaged and made user friendly. Both the videos are informative and rich in detail.
Using a Hyperion configurator, the project is later updated to include compatibility with PS3 and cable TV. It would be really cool to see how you would go about this DIY.
