Ametherm, a company that specializes in thermistors for industrial, automotive, AMS (avionics, military, and space) markets, has unveiled a new circuit thermistor. The device features industry’s smallest diameter for a UL-approved device with a maximum continuous current rating of 4.0 A and energy rating of 50J. 

 

Until now, the designers had to rely on devices with larger diameters of 22 mm to achieve high current and energy ratings of the new SL15 60004. However, with the introduction of a radial lead package carrying a maximum diameter of only 15mm, the designers will be able to avail benefits like lower costs, limitation on the excess of circuit board heat, faster reset times, and more board space.

 

 

 

Owing to the small size and high current rating of the SL15 60004, it becomes ideal for fractional horsepower motor drives, power supplies, and vacuum cleaners. Besides, the device offers a resistance of 60 Ohms, dissipation constant of 15 mW/℃, and thermal time constant of 45s. It can even handle body temperatures of up to 194℃ at 100% of its maximum current rating.
