Wifi Bot Control is an app that allows a microcontroller based robot to be controlled with an android app over Wifi internet. Not only can the app control the directions for the robot – through a joystick, which can be seen in action in the video below – but has space for up to 8 customizable features. These can be anything based on your requirements or imagination: LED torch switch on and switch off, mechanical arms, like that of a rover, to collect samples, gyroscopic motion to make the robot dance. As I said, anything you’d like your robot to do.
The application is available for download on Google Play, for no cost. If you have a robot with brains, that is, with microcontrollers that can work on wifi, all you need to make the thing work is web server. The webserver acts as a go between the bot and the app. It interprets the commands sent by WiFi Bot Control, and in turn sends files through which the robot understands the commands given by the user. This webserver can be part of the bot, or can be a separate server.
The application has up to three configurable camera URLs. It works on three joystick modes namely Default, Simple Mode and Orientation Sensor. This joystick can give direction as well as acceleration to the bot in the default joystick mode. Not only this, it can read and display sensor related info from the arduino on the screen. If you already have a roving bot, it should be interesting to enable its control with this app and see how it works out.
