If you are also among those who escape the prospect of having a chicken house because it is a hectic project. The problem can now be easily rectified with an Automatic Safe Chicken House (A.S.C.H.). The project was pursued by Thomas De Zaeyer and Ruben Smid. They accomplished the task by automating the chicken coop. The only thing you will need to ensure is that the chickens come inside it in the evening and there are no predators to attack them. The coop will make sure that the chickens get water and food as and when they face a shortage of drink and food. They mainly used Arduino for this purpose because it is simple and easy to implement.
They also used a daylight sensor that opened the door automatically as sunlight touched the ground and closed it again at sunset. For the eggs, they installed a simple motion sensor and push button. When the motion sensor fails to detect a chicken and a pushbutton command is received it blinks a LED to indicate there are no chickens in sight. The two also installed the coop with a fresh air system that kept it well-ventilated whenever stale air is detected by the gas sensor. You will receive a signal on your phone automatically as and when the atmosphere inside gets bad. The food system mainly consists of a motor that rotates the mill to give the chickens food for the whole day. The hardware used in this project are Genuino UNO and Arduino UNO and Smart living IOTOPIA Rapid Development Kit. The software apps used for this purpose was also SmartLiving. This is just for chickens here but you can always use it for other small animals as well.
