A number of analysts last year analyzed the relationship between electric car and energy storage and energy grids. The predictions is now slowly coming true. After so many innovative submissions by Audi, Daimler, and Tesla, Nissan has now come up with a new concept under which they will utilize second-hand batteries for energy storage in home.
In case you missed the analysis, here is a short synopsis: some time back, Alstom Siemens from Mitsubishi Electric along with few other companies turned into electric transport system makers as well as energy production and storage system manufacturers. This became possible because the main forte of these companies was Power Electronics and they held special proficiency in handling this subject.
As the market is turning into an electric one with every passing day and power generation is coming down to user level, a new momentum is taking place. Car manufacturers mostly master the “consumer power range” electric systems. Therefore, the chances of seeing electric car makers as energy supply-chain owners are quite high. However, the level of generation from these car manufacturers will be less than Siemens and Alstom.
In same lieu, Eaton and Nissan, recently joined hands to reveal a latest residential power storage unit. Termed as “xStorage” it will give buyers a full possibility to restrict their power usage as per their requirement. This unit will either be connected with residential power supply or a few other renewable energy resources like solar panels or wind mills. The unit can be recharged easily and at much cost-effective prices with the help of renewable energy producers.
The home based energy storage system also offers a back-up solution for buyers which will ensure that power failure never takes place. Also, it will give consumers enough energy that they can even sell or trade when demand and costs are high. It will definitely offer a “second life” to Nissan’s Electric Vehicle (EV) batteries as and when their first life cycle is complete. The new unit will be easily powered by twelve Nissan EV battery units and it will completely transform the manner in which people utilize or manage their energy requirements.
In words of Cyrille Brisson, the VP of Marketing at Eaton Electrical EMEA, “The collaborative development between Eaton and Nissan enabled us to optimize development and production costs and deliver a well-integrated offer to consumers. Our system will be provided to end-users completely ready to use, with all required elements including cabling and installation by a certified professional, at a starting price of € 4, 000 for 4.2KWh nominal. Our policy is to avoid hidden extra costs and achieve a lower total cost of ownership than other major offers already announced.”
