The pollution is getting worse. The air we are breathing is become more toxic. So we tried to do our bit. We bring to you a DIY project which can understand the different concentrations of chemicals in the air and alert you. This project has 4 gas sensors, for methane, propane, carbon monoxide and smoke. These sensors are connected to Intel Edison for wireless detection and alerting.
So, let’s get started. You need quite a few things for this project. You can get the complete list in the source link, given below. It needs 5V3A power supply to work adequately. You can also get a detailed breakup of the current consumption and the electrical design, in the link. Intel Edison forms the heart of this device. It comes with a built in Wi-Fi radio, hence you can connect it to the internet easily.
The mechanical design, might be a little tedious but if you’re game, go on! You need 3 plates of laser-cut sheets. The inventor has provided the vector files for a triangular device, but you can get innovative. You can see how to assemble the three layers and what goes where. Once done, you can start with downloading the Arduino sketch running on the Intel Edison. Reboot and calibrate after uploading the program.
The inventor encourages you to configure a web interface for plotting the results and alerting everyone around you. We think, it’s a great initiative.
