Fujitsu, the leading Japanese information and communication technology (ICT) company, and Mirantis, the managed open cloud company, have signed a strategic collaboration agreement. This is to help customers adopt open cloud infrastructure based on OpenStack and related open source technologies like Kubernetes.
The two companies will integrate Mirantis Cloud Platform, and a unique build-operate-transfer open infrastructure delivery model with Fujitsu’ hardware, software, and support capabilities. With the agreement, Fujitsu would act as Mirantis’ strategic partner and introduce this methodology to the customers.
Unlike the traditional software-centric method that revolves around licensing and support subscriptions, Mirantis’ approach will pioneer an operations-centric approach. In this, an open infrastructure will be continuously delivered with an operations SLA through a managed service or by the customer themselves. Hence, instead of happening once every 6-12 months, the software updates will be introduced in minor increments on a weekly basis with no down time.
As far as Fujitsu’s plans are concerned, the company is going to add a new privately managed global OpenStack based on Mirantis Cloud Platform from June 2017. This step is aimed at fulfilling the growing demand of customers for an easy-to-use open and standards-based cloud platform.
