Fujitsu Laboratories Ltd. has developed a new technology that analyzes a program for partition and visualization of complex business applications. Usually, business applications, when added with new features or subject to maintenance, have their internal structures get complex. So, it’s a huge burden to modify applications in response to business changes.
In order to carry out the participation of a business into each of its functional components, Fujitsu Laboratories has come up with a technology that analyses dependencies between programs and data so as to identify the boundary candidates. This helps in the partition of the program in a way that reduces the mutual dependency.

The technology can also find an area of the program that should be executed as a series of operations and the areas where the business relationship is the highest. By visualizing the program’s boundaries that partition by function, it’s possible to partition applications, where this has been difficult to achieve.
Key Features
• While partitioning an application, this technology analyses the structure of the application and arranges the data in a way that minimizes the number of dependencies, particularly mutual write operation dependencies.
• When the database access logs are collected, the technology identifies areas where operations must be executed as a series supplementing the results obtained in the previous step.
• It also uses software map technology to visualize the results of the first two steps. The visualization places areas with a strong mutual relationship close together.
Using the technology ensures reduced burden of investigation and modification which implies less amount of man-hours. For example, in a test using applications from a purchasing department, the boundaries obtained from this newly developed technology led to reduce mutual dependencies by around 15%.
