Infineon Technologies AG has launched a 48-volt smart eFuse family and a reference board for hot-swap controllers designed for 400-volt and 800-volt power architectures in AI data centers. The products address power path protection requirements for high-power AI server systems operating at voltages from 48V to 400V and 800V.
The eFuse ICs XDP730, XDP720, XDP721, and XDP722 are designed for 48-volt power delivery systems. Each device integrates a digital protection controller, an OptiMOS FET, a gate driver, and a current sensor. The eFuses enable hot-swapping, which allows equipment to be connected or disconnected from the DC bus during system operation. The devices respond to overcurrent and short-circuit events and provide telemetry data, including voltage, current, energy, power measurements, and fault detection.
Infineon has also released the REF_XDP701_4800 hot-swap controller reference design for 400-volt and 800-volt rack architectures. The design is based on the XDP hot-swap controller and uses 1200-volt-rated CoolSiC JFET technology. The digital hot-swap controller operates the device in linear mode, which allows the power system to function during overvoltage events without damage or degradation.
The reference board enables designers to program the control trajectory for inrush current based on the device’s safe operating area. The design delivers a nominal thermal design power of 12 kilowatts. The combination of the hot-swap controller and SiC JFET technology provides a balance between on-resistance and operational robustness for high-voltage DC bus applications.
Samples of the XDP730, XDP720, XDP721, and XDP722 eFuse ICs are available now. The REF_XDP701_4800 reference design is currently in sampling. Additional technical information is available at the Infineon website.
