The unforgettable 90’s gives a flashback of numerous memories and a nostalgic resurgence. One of their kind was “Instant photography” and Polaroid cameras until universal digital photography took over the world. In this tutorial of Adafruit, we will cherish some taste from the past with a blend from the present.
This camera-and-thermal-printer amalgamation is not an innovative notion but building one of them at discounted rate is definitely not a thing of the past. In this project, chemical film will be substituted with some contemporary electronic parts: a Raspberry Pi computer and camera harmonizing with a diminutivethermal printer, all working off a battery. Where you just press a button and get a print!
So, the material used for this project includes a model Raspberry Pi with a camera connector (i.e. all but Pi Zero), 2GB or larger microSD card, any model Raspberry Pi Camera board; visible light or NoIR (infrared), original 5 megapixel or newer 8 MP models, Adafruit Thermal Receipt printer, Thermal Paper Roll(s), 4xAA Battery Holder with On/Off Switch, Perma Proto HAT — No EEPROM.
You may also need 16mm Panel-Mount Momentary Push Button, latest version of Raspbian Jessie Lite for Raspberry Pi web site, four Panasonic Eneloop rechargeable NiMH batteries and NiMH battery charger along with some useful equipments for soldering iron and related paraphernalia, some bits of wire, etc.
Some erstwhile Raspberry Pi experience is expected like downloading the OS, writing an SD card, basic system and network configuration, etc. You can hunt the Adafruit Learning System for associated guides if any of this is unacquainted.
In the course of setup, you will provisionally need a monitor, keyboard and network connection. The Model A+ may necessitate using a USB hub and a wireless adapter, if you previously have a working Raspberry Pi system that’s networkable, it may be easier to borrow that for the software setup, then move the card over to the A+ board.
Constructing an enclosure for your camera is a DIY task.
