Intel recently launched a new class of inside-out stand-alone tracking cameras, the T265, that promises a stronger foundation of autonomous devices via superior navigation and guidance support. The camera makes use of Intel’s V-SLAM (visual inertial odometry simultaneous localization and mapping) technology. It computes all data at the edge and would be vital for applications needing very precise tracking solutions that strictly stick to time parameters including VR (Virtual Reality), AR (Augmented Reality, drones, and robotics.

Features
The Intel RealSense Tracking Camera T265 takes power from Intel Movidius™ Myriad™ 2 VPU (Vision Processing Unit). This VPU is capable of taking care of complete data processing required to track on a machine. As a result, it helps the T265 enjoy a smaller footprint, much less power consumption paving a way out for developers to modify or develop their own intellectual properties. Applications

What Makes It So Special?
The T265 makes use of inside-out tracking system. It means that it doesn’t depends on any external sensors to understand its surroundings. It enjoys 6DoF (6-degrees-of-freedom) inside-out tracking by collecting inputs from two different embedded fish-eye-cameras capable of rotating up to 170 degrees. The system in it keeps collecting and upgrading maps of unknown surroundings along with location of the device it is placed on. This paves a smooth way for independent tracking and keep working even with very low-compute devices.
