If you ask any professional Mac store worker or Apple employee, the answer would probably be no. But as per James who loves to make, break, and fix things, it is possible. Speaking from his prior experience, it all began when accidently orange juice was spilled on his Macbook Pro. Although, he cleaned it immediately but problems began appearing a few days later. His laptop wasn’t charging any more neither would the charger light respond to the charger. The worst part is you can’t lie to the store about it and get it fixed even if your laptop is under warranty. The system already comes with moisture sensors, so the technician would know in a minute what actually caused the blunder.
He took the task on himself and started by carefully disassembling his Macbook. He warns that those planning to do this must follow the instructions very carefully. Then he cleaned every part that might have been under effect of orange juice. However, nothing was broken and despite reassembling the whole laptop, the charger light was still off. The insides of Macbook are very complex and one needs to be very careful while repairing them. Even if you take help from IFixit page for Macbook Pro it will offer just 10 per cent help.
James was highly frustrated and was about to consider last option i.e. throwing this one and getting a new one. However, his technical angel came in form of Louis Rossmann, the man who performs so many Macbook repairs in a Manhatten repair shop and demonstrates all of those on his YouTube channel. James took clue from there found a schematic and board view from his online Macbook logicboard. He learned the ins and outs of Macbook Pro power subsystem from Louis’s videos. One thing that he understood well was that the green light on the side wouldn’t turn on unless it receives a 1-wire message from Macbook SMC. For this purpose, the power controller needs to check everything.
Macbook is very well protected against shorts and would not turn on even if there is a slight hint of trouble. After watching a few more videos he finally landed on a video called”Macbook charger green light; or what is the one wire circuit and why should I care?” It finally showed him the right path to locate the problem. Once located, he ordered another part for $20 and Wohoo!! The problem was solved. What is commendable about this story is the sharp sense of observation and learning things that can really save one from hell lot of trouble and unwanted wastage of money.
