There are a lot of text to speech programs available in the market, but if they are not in your budget then you can try your hands on this DIY. It lets you convert text to speech using a bash script, Kali Linux and Raspberry Pi. Like the developer you too can get fun audio alerts for your application notifications or recording a personal greeting for your phone.
The developer, like all of us thought that the software available in the market were too robotic and monotonous. You can check out the guide and play around with espeak for a bit, before trying out this DIY. You need speakers connected to your RPI, which are loud enough, of course. You can increase the volume using alsamixer command, FYI!
Once you’re done testing, you can create a bash script using the instruction set in the link. You can record your messages and have a personalized greeting for your callers. And if you read till the end, Dr. Grigorios Fragkos has included a ‘bonus’ tip where you can see how to convert the time to speech!
Cool, eh! And we don’t know if it’s his real name.
