Light Show By Intel’s Drone Supersedes The Guinness World Record Title At The 2018 Olympic Winter Games

By Bijal Parikh

Recently, Intel pulled up the benchmarks of entertainment in PyeongChang at the 2018 winter games opening ceremony. The first every light show by a drone also established a Guinness Worlds Record making it one of the most unparallel events in the world. The new record registered here received this title for “maximum number of unmanned aerial vehicles airborne simultaneously.” By figures, it had three hundred Shooting Stars drones flying live at an opening ceremony and dazzling the viewers with formation of Olympic rings.

The more interesting part is that these Shooting Star drones will be used for celebrating achievements of different athletes all across the event. These drones will perform at night to celebrate achievements for every game. With this new trend, Intel has pulled up the level of entertainment for all future events including the Olympic Winter Games. The 2018 Olympic Winter Games kicked off with a record breaking light show overtaking the previous performance by Intel drones that took place in Germany in year 2016. Here, Intel developed and designed the custom animations for the initial ceremony and nightly victory ceremonies.

According to Natalie Cheung, the General Manager of Intel’s drone light show team, “The Olympics are a time when the sports and entertainment industries are buzzing with record-setting performances, so it was the perfect stage for Intel Shooting Star drones and our team to set their own kind of record. It’s an honor to celebrate athletes from every corner of the world during the Opening Ceremony and victory ceremonies, and we hope that the nightly Intel drone light shows add to the magic of this unforgettable, once-in-a-lifetime experience.”  Apart from this, Intel also executed a 30-seconds ad spot showcasing the power of Intel Shooting Star drones and the entertainment possibilities of the same.
