Marvel’s Internet of Things Application Processor (IAP) family recently welcomed a new member – the IAP220. It comes with an integrated sensor hub that enhances battery life by permitting the host to get under sleep mode while sensor information is read and processed. The central processor is a dual-core Cortex-A7 clocked at 1 GHz. It has also been blessed with a Cortex-M4F for control. The chip’s framework mainly support applications meant for Internet of Things (IoT). Here lower power consumption means enhanced operational life. The system design has been incorporated with numerous power domains, the critical areas, on the contrary, help in state retention.
This permits the dual Cortex-A7 core and Cortex-M4F to stay in their lowest power consumption mode while the sensors relay information. The system receives full support from SmartMe Sensor library. The library is capable of supporting cognitive sensor processing, gesture control, and motion sensor fusion. It can analyze fitness and health level in one go. The IAP200 has been instilled with an DDR3/LP-DDR2/3 memory controller. Flash storage can be accessed easily from SDIO port and eMMC interface.
The chip also incorporates security hardware support along with support for secure provisioning and secure boot. The graphics sub-systems of this chip offer complete support to OpenGL ES1.1/2/0. The video subsystem also offer HD decode and encide support in addition to H.264, MPEG-4, MJPEG, and H.263 support. It can easily drive an LCD screen and offer complete support to MIPI video and other command modes. The chip can easily take care of two-lane CSI cameras. The audio system can also support more than 2 PDM microphones and speakers in one go with the help of TDM and I2S.
The chip is capable of working in association with Marvell’s Bluetooth/Wi-Fi hardware. It’s development board can work with both Marvell Sensor Board and Marvell Wi-Fi Bluetooth Connectivity board. The development software is based on the Kinoma Javascript engine that works for the HomeKit protocol and connects with cloud services like Amazon Alexa, Microsoft’s Azure, and IBM’s Bluemix.
