Maxim Integrated, a reputed company that develops innovative analog and mixed signal products as well as technologies, has rolled out two power management ICs (PMICs) namely MAX77650 and MAX77651. These ICs have been particularly developed to address the need for increased battery life and efficiency.
The PMICs cater to the user group including the likes of designers of Bluetooth headphones, activity monitors, smart garments, smartwatches, and other size-constrained devices.
Size is a critical factor for the wearables and hearables as these continue to move to smaller forms. Most PMICs require additional components like boost, buck, and low dropout (LDO) regulators; a charge; and current regulators for LED indicators.
In order to save space and improve efficiency, Maxim has integrated all these functions into a complete power solution measuring just 19.2 mm2. This is half the size of the existing component combinations.

Discussing the features, the MAX77650 and MAX77651 are equipped with single inductor multiple output (SIMO) buck-boost regulators offering three independently programmable power rails from a single inductor. It also carries 150mA LDO and three current sink drivers to reduce the overall component count and maximize available board space.
Besides, the MAX77650 operates up to 3.3V while the MAX77651 operates up to 5V, whereby both include an analog multiplexer (MUX) output for safe battery monitoring. It makes them ideal for low-power designs.
Key Advantages:
• 0.3µA; 5.6µA operating current
• 3-output SIMO channels plus LDO extend Li+ battery life
• Multi-channel SIMO regulator reduces component count
Availability & Pricing
MAX77650/MAX77651 are available from stock and priced at $1.99 (1,000-up, FOB USA). Besides, MAX77650EVKIT# and MAX77651EVKIT# are available from stock and priced at $193.63 each.
