Maxim Integrated, a reputed designer and manufacturer of analog and mixed-signal products and technologies, has revealed the MAX17055 ModelGauge m5. The new fuel gauge would allow developers to design the portable device with maximum accuracy and low power host-side battery gauges.
For a good performance, the traditional fuel gauges need extensive characterization of each battery type used in specific applications. This implies complicated battery characterization that piles up time and resources to the design cycle. However, with the MAX17055’s ModelGauge m5 EZ configuration, there is no need for battery characterization and hence it shortens customer’s time to market.

Key Features
• Highest accuracy within 1% state of charge error in most scenarios for maximum run-time.
• Lowest quiescent current of 18/7µA in low power mode prevents excessive energy loss.
• No battery Characterization required owing to the EZ configuration.
• Enhanced User Experience in the form of time-to-empty and time-to-full information.
When operated in the low power operating mode, the MAX17055 draws industry’s lowest quiescent current of 7µA. For the space constrained applications, it is offered in a 1.4 mm x 1.5 mm WLP. Moving on, it doesn’t have a minimum battery size limit unlike other gas gauges. This makes it ideally suitable for a wide range of portable devices like wearables, body cameras, drones, health and fitness monitors, hearables, smartwatches, virtual reality gear, USB C-Type and medical devices.
Availability
The MAX17055XEVKIT is available at USD 66 while the MAX17055 ModelGauge can be availed at USD 1.08.
