Are you a Moto GP fan? Does the names like Valentino Rossi, Jorge Lorenzo tick up your Adrenaline levels? Then you must have been amazed by the fact these races are broadcasted on television. Action cameras, powerful microphones and breath taking commentary make sure that you are excited on the couch as you have been on the field. One of the vital parts of the race telecast is the camera that is fixed right on the bike dashboard or near the tailpipe of the motorbike. These cameras stay fixed at their respective positions and record all the movements of the bike with a very high clarity. Coming with a hefty price tag, these cameras are a gem of real time action recording. How interesting would it become if such cameras could come into DIY’s and let anyone attach it to their 2 wheeler? Then one can not only capture the vehicle’s precise reaction to the city roads but also get a good feedback on how he handles it at various speeds. In this blog post, we explore one such DIY where Arduino gears itself up to produce a gyrocam.
In this portable camera design, Arduino powers itself up with a simple digicam, triple axis accelerometer and gyro breakout module. Other major parts include a good servo motor, 9V battery with a switch and a box to case up whole project.
While making this project, one would notice three major aspects: the hardware, the software and the placement of the camera. One has to be limited in using the wires and casings, so that the assembly comes out to be as compact as possible. The placement should also be such that it doesn’t hinder the riding experience or puts the assembly to potential damage. Also, a series of tests to check out how the handmade gyrocam performs would be a crucial part too. Are you ready to take this challenge? Can you DIY one such amazing accessory for your motorbike?
