Today we are going to create a home media centre for our homes using the most basic of devices. We will be using Raspberry pi and an hdmi/vga display from an old desktop monitor to accomplish our goal.
This project requires minimum knowledge of programming and or embedded systems, yes those are big engineering words ignore them. You can use this to play media files, watch YouTube videos, get weather updates play games and if you really want to wake up in surround sound then an alarm configuration is also available.
The components as stated above are relatively cheap and can be bought easily of amazon. Raspberry pi is one of the most versatile devices available in the market and can be used for a wide range of things, and is the size of the credit card you’re going to use to buy it. Now you may be wondering how this will work as a home media centre, well the answer to that is KODI. KODI is a software package which includes all the code required to run the device as you want it to.
This is a simple, cost effective way to set up a home media centre which can also add some basic knowledge of hardware and software working to your repertoire.
Enjoy!
