So this DIY has actually a story to it. This guy had a small leak, for three months, and only when it became a big problem, he got it fixed. Now if he had had a humidity sensor, he would have gotten to know about it earlier and hence, fixed earlier. Let’s see, how you can avoid a mishap like this. You need an RPI Model B, a case, an SD card and a power supply.
You can see in the link, how to assemble the parts together as well as the electrical assembly.
Once done, you can start with the software setup. You can find the link, in the link below along with their latest version updates. Make sure to select English-US keyboard while you’re configuring it, unless of course you’re fluent in the other language.
Once you’re done, you can SSH to it from a distant machine. Then you can set the LAMP web server, so that you can get a pictorial representation of the readings. You can obviously play with the add-ons. You will have to set up the dB and a table and using C, add readings to it.
The coolest thing about it is, you can monitor more than one rooms using this device. A camera is optional, but you might want to give it a try too.
Do let us know, how it turned out!
