Naturebytes Camera Traps: A New Beginning

By Shreepanjali Mod

A new start up called Naturebytes plans to make a new beginning by building a new community that will use 3D Printed Raspberry Pi Cameras. The initiative gets supported by Raspberry Pi Foundation’s Nesta and Education Fund. This community will be a digital making community for wildlife with a highly significant purpose. The gadgets and devices created by this community will be used for data collection that will be analysed for wild life conservation. As a beginning, the team recently took a prototype 3D printed birdbox style camera to a family festival to observe opinions and thoughts of people about it.

The visitors did enjoy the colourful science camps that housed Raspberry Pi, Pi based cameras, passive infrared sensors, battery banks, UBEC and several others. UBEC are special gadgets used in power regulation. The infrared sensors were actually PIR sensors that could detect any wildlife passing by their sides. The team used Pthon for administering the camera module movements. All of these turn photos and snaps in the SD card. In case, you wish to make observations about nocturnal animals, them Pi NoIR can easily be used along with a cluster of infrared LEDs. A new start up called Naturebytes plans to make a new beginning by building a new community that will use 3D Printed Raspberry Pi Cameras.
