Diodes offers new synchronous buck converter with wide-input voltage range

March 31, 2021 By Michelle Froese

Diodes Incorporated new AP61300/AP61302 is a 3A, synchronous buck converter with a wide input voltage range between 2.4 and 5.5V. The device fully integrates a 70mΩ high-side power MOSFET and a 50mΩ lowside power MOSFET to provide high-efficiency step-down DC-DC conversion.

The AP61300/AP61302 can be set to operate in either pulse-width modulation (PWM), regardless of load, or pulse frequency modulation (PFM) with up to 84 percent efficiency at 5mA light load (5VIN, 1.8VOUT).

The device is easily used by minimizing the external component count due to its adoption of constant-on-time (COT) control to achieve fast transient response, easy loop stabilization, and low-output voltage ripple. It’s available in a SOT563 package.

Applications include:

  • 5V Distributed Power Bus Supplies
  • White Goods and Small Home Appliances
  • FPGA, DSP, and ASIC Supplies
  • Network Video Cameras
  • Wireless Routers
  • Consumer Electronics
  • General Purpose Point of Load

Features include:

  • VIN: 2.4V to 5.5V
  • Output Voltage (VOUT): 0.6V to VIN
  • 3A Continuous Output Current
  • 6V ± 2% Reference Voltage
  • 19μA Low Quiescent Current (Pulse Frequency Modulation)
  • 2MHz Switching Frequency (VIN = 5V, VOUT = 1.8V)
  • Up to 84% Efficiency at 5mA Light Load
  • Programmable Operation Mode Through EN
  • Pulse Frequency Modulation
  • Pulse Width Modulation Regardless of Output Load
  • Low-Dropout (LDO) Mode
  • Power-Good Indicator
  • AP61302
  • Protection Circuitry
  • Under-voltage Lockout (UVLO)
  • VIN Overvoltage Protection (OVP)
  • Peak Current Limit
  • Valley Current Limit
  • Thermal Shutdown
