Maxim’s charger designers recently came up with simplest approach for faster adn safer charging of USB Type-C portable devices that make use of 2-series Li-ion battery packets. One of the firsts in market is the 15 W MAX 14748 USB Type-C charger and charging detection solution. The makers claim that this one has much higher efficiency and integration than all others in its domain. This new charger skips the ICs patchwork that was previously needed for delivery of similar capabilities. At the same time, it also enables the designers to take leverage of selective USB Type-C functions that are needed for a specific design.
These new USB Type-C charger would prove beneficial for numerous equipment ranging from motorized medical devices to virtual reality headsets, high-end cameras, wireless speakers and so forth. It will also improve the rate of data transference and streaming from one end to other. The two-series battery packs will support these application with required power that is needed for execution.. On the other hand, these devices will also need higher amount of energy for charging. Till date development of USB Type-C charger based product demanded several discrete parts that finally enhanced the manufacturing costs and led to several other failure points in the circuits.
The MAX14748 optimizes the complete design by bringing together 28V over-voltage protection, USB Type-C charger detection, charger, and power path over a single chip. This one is a highly integrated solution that supports all other non-standard chargers and USB BC1.2-compliant chargers. This also means that this new charging solution will work with twice the efficiency of Micro USB solutions. A programmable Automatic Input Current Limiting (AICL) feature has also been installed in the same, it would allow the charger to safely draw peak current supplied by the charging adapter.
