Renesas Electronics Introduces RX72M Group of Microcontrollers Featuring EtherCAT(R) Support for Industrial Applications

Renesas Electronics Corporation recently introduced a completely new range of MCUs (Microcontrollers) with EtherCAT slave controllers for industrial Ethernet communication. Named as the RX72M, this group of RX MCUs promises several added benefits like large memory capacities, single-chip MCU solution, high-performance for all industrial equipment needing communication and control functions.

Applications
 
It is a proven fact that likeability and usage of EtherCAT is on rapid rise as far as industrial Ethernet is concerned. Presently, it is being used for dedicated ICs, MCUs, as well as advanced SoC (System-on-Chip) devices specially created for EtherCAT communications. 
The new RX72M group yields much superior performance of 1396 CoreMark score at the rate of 240MHz as scaled on EEMBC standards. It can capable of providing both EtherCAT communication and application processing. 
 
When combined with a motor-control MCU, the on-chip EtherCAT slave function paves way for industrial application developers to reduce their BOM (Bill of Materials) and back the miniaturization levels needed for designing industrial equipment. 
 
Key Features
 
The RX MCU offers one of the first EtherCAT slave controller for industrial Ethernet communication.
 
It also comes with high-speed flash memory system backing readout up to 120MHz leading to creation of low-variability and high-performance execution environment. 
 
Dependable cryptography functions like memory protection and encryption module function present in hardware to keep encryption keys safe. This keeps the application systems from being zeroxed without validation and authorization. It also supports authentication for original equipment. 
 
Flexible packaging options available that include first 224-pin BGA package for RX MCUs and 176-pin BGA configurations for RX MCUs. This also provides extra space saving for size-restricted designs. 
 
Much higher performance with CoreMark standard score of 1396 up to 240MHz as well as the first embedded double precision floating point unit (FPU) in an RX MCU.
