The firm recently released MPLAB® Harmony Version 3.0 (v3) that not only unifies software framework for various applications but provides full support to SAM MCUs as well. It widens the range of options available for supporting various requirements related to end applications. The new version also adds some new features that optimize designs like royalty-free security software via wolfSSL and modular software downloads that allow downloading of selective parts of software according to application requirements.

● A unified platform with flexible options spread across performance, application, and architectures.

● Allows developers to learn as well as maintain single environment on computers.

● Relieves designers from the need to download complete software suite.

● Support various software development models right from Real Time Operating System based applications to device configuration applications.

● Saves time as well as hard disk space.

In Makers’ Words

Rod Drake, the vice president of Microchip’s 32-bit microcontroller business unit, adds, “Microchip continues to add enhancements that make MPLAB Harmony more flexible, integrates and ease-to-use. With the addition of SAM MCUs to the Harmony ecosystem, designers can speed development with the platform’s code interoperability, optimized peripheral libraries and extensive middleware support.”

To bring down the embedded security design cycles, Microchip is working in association with wolfSSL. The two will together implement Microchip’s security suite software  elements in MPLAB Harmony v3. It is a multi-year agreement that will offer developers with a royalty-free, ready-to-use software based security solutions focusing on portability, size, speed, as well as standard compliance.
