Texas Instruments’ Ethernet PHYs Promises Simplification of Design Process with Streamlined Network Performance

Texas Instruments (TI) recently launched two completely new Ethernet PHY (Physical Layer) transceivers for expansion of connectivity alternatives for designers. The class of designers addressed here includes both time-sensitive networks and space constrained application makers.

Named as DP83825I, it is a 10-/100-Mbps Ethernet PHY that is 44% smaller in size as compared to other available devices in industry. Alongwith, the users enjoy a 150-meters long cable reach that is better than any other of its counterpart. For now, the DP83869HM is the only gigabit Ethernet PHY in industry that backs fiber and copper media and provides high-temperature operability up to 125 degrees centigrade. This helps engineers to take benefit of reliability and speed of gigabit Ethernet connectivity under most trying environmental conditions.

What Will These Get Placed In Tech World?

These devices will become part of TI’s detailed profile of Ethernet PHY transceivers and will allow designers to address myriad of design challenges. It will play a crucial role in reducing cost and size of compact IP network camera, electronic point-of-sale, lighting and several other space constrained applications without compromising the reach of network.

The ability to function at high temperature and ESD (Electrostatic Discharge) immunity and support for all kind of media conversion assists in enhancing design flexibility and performance in factory automation, grid infrastructure equipment designs, and motor drive equipment designs.


Smallest Ethernet PHY: These new PHY have 3mm-by-3mm quad flat no-lead 24-pin packing along with a long cable reach. It will be very helpful when designers need to shrink system design while enhancing the networks’ physical span.

● Lowest Power Consumption by an Ethernet PHY: The DP83825I also brings down themal loading and power demands for Ethernet connectivity and allow proper allocation of power to the most critical parts present inside a system while consuming power as low as 125mW. It also includes myriad of power savvy features like energy-efficient Ethernet, media access control isolation, and wake-on-LAN.
