A small entrepreneurs team working in association with Skipping Rocks Lab recently came in news for its crowdfunding campaign for mass production of a consumable water bottling device that is capable of generating a consumable water bottle called Ooho! It is actually a spherical blob of water that is stored in a very thin membrane that can be popped in the mouth easily. The team aims to raise an amount worth half a million for publicity and promotion of this idea that can save a lot from plastic packaging waste.
Skipping Rocks Labs, happens to be a UK-based startup company that targets to create better and more eco-friendly packaging technologies for all kind of products. The concept behind Ooho! Has been derived from the traditional culinary world where liquids are packed with the help of spherification, an ice ball is dipped in a combination of calcium chloride and brown algae. This leads to the formation of a clear transparent membrane that keeps the ice from melting. This can easily give a new way to the packaging of other liquids like water or juices.
There are many who are of the opinion that it looks more like a jellyfish or a breast implant. Since it is made up of a membrane is formed of natural ingredients it can either be eaten or tossed aside on the grounds for decomposition. The team also notes that this can always be used for different ball sizes and membrane thickness giving a smart solution for several problems on a large scale. One can also add edible layers to it or edible labels can be suspended between two different layers. You can also think of adding flavors to the membrane which is otherwise quite tasteless.
The main aim of this project is to help the world with piling problem of plastic bottles that are filling landfills all over the world.
