Well, we have all heard about people adopting peculiar pets. If you want to beat everyone at this game, this DIY is just for you. It lets you make your own pet robot, with colour vision follower and Arduino as a brain. Talk about thinking out of the box.
This little, not so furry, friend can provide you hours of entertainment and is DIY-able in an afternoon. Not just that it has a Pixy Camera which can track objects by their colour and report their locations to the Arduino, all in real time. I know, you can’t wait to get started, so here’s a list of things you’ll need:
· Pixy CMUcam-5
· Mini Pan/Tilt Kit, with micro servers
· Zumo Robot
· Arduino Leonardo
· Double-sided foam tape
· Cable ties
· 4 AA batteries
· A pair of scissors
· Wire cutters
· 2 USB cables
Since we are using the Zumo Robot, you can’t use Uno or any other processor. You could use them with maybe a different robot pin configuration.
As seen in the video, the tiny robot is following different objects with light/colour sources. It looks incredibly fun. You might want to dress it up like Kyle, from Despicable Me and give your neighbours a little scare.
You can get the camera assemble code at the link below, complete with pictures and videos.
Say ‘hi’ to your little DIY Robot Friend from our side, once you’re done!
