Renesas Electronics and Xilinx collaborate on Versal ACAP reference designs

By Shree Mod December 23, 2019

Renesas Electronics Corporation, supplier of advanced semiconductor solutions, recently launched its timing and power solutions from Integrated Device Technology or IDT.

A subsidiary of Renesas, IDT is currently supporting the Xilinx Versal Adaptive Compute Acceleration Platform (ACAP) devices, featured by the Xilinx VCK190 evaluation kit, and the Renesas VERSALDEMO1Z power reference board.

This new solution is based on 7nm process technology and is one of the industry’s first ACAP platform addressing the requirements of several applications in defense markets, wired markets, 5G wireless systems, automotive, and data-center domain.

What makes it interesting?
The Xilinx VCK190 is one of the first Versal AI Core series evaluation kit that takes root in VC1902 Versal AI Core series ACAP. It provides what’s currently the highest signal processing throughput and AI inference for the edge, network, and cloud applications.

The kit offered under Renesas-Xilinx has a lot to offer, including complete timing solutions, such as:

  • 8A34001 CloclMatrix system synchronizer for eCPRI and IEEE1588 applications
  • Programmable clock generator and clock multiplexer/buffer for PCle interface
  • 8T49N240/41 Universal Frequency Translators for flexible and low-jitter transceiver SerDes clocking

The broad portfolio from IDT offers one of the best timing solutions in the industry to date. It is capable of meeting all kind of Versal timing requirements, with ultra-low phase noise promising high-performance, robust product designs.

The kit also features Renesas’ VERSALDEMO1Z power reference board. These offer full power rails for the Versal ACAP’s external DDR memory, scalar engines, AI engines, as well as adaptable engines.

This new board is the most complete power supply solutions with a member of the advanced ISL68xxx digital multiphase PWM controller family as well as several members of ISL99xxx smart power stage family to offer scalable and high-efficiency Vcore power. Additionally, it has the ISL91211A PMIC (Power Management IC) and DC-DC regulators, providing an optimized and integrated solution for the remaining power tree.

“We are thrilled to continue our collaboration with Xilinx by providing turn-key clocking and power reference boards that help system developers jumpstart their Versal ACAP designs,” said DK Singh, director of Systems and Solutions Team at Renesas. :Our industry-leading power and timing solutions provide one-stop solutions to meet all of Versal’s design requirements, allowing customers to design new products with confidence and extra margin.”
