Renesas Electronics Corporation, a premier supplier of advanced semiconductor solutions, has released a new high-sensitivity, high-resolution 8.48 megapixel (MP) CMOS image sensor. The device is termed as RAA462113FYL and supports 4K video cameras.

 

In combination with the existing Renesas 2.12 MP product that is already in mass production, the company will be offering full-scale sales support for its high-end CMOS image sensor for network security cameras.

 

The CMOS image sensor aims to address the rising need for network security cameras in financial institutions, transportation systems, and commercial establishments. It renders functions appropriate for imaging under the varied environmental conditions required by high-end devices, thus contributing to the increased system performance.

 

 

1. In a moonlit environment, the sensor achieves clear, high-visibility full-color imaging event.

 

2. Due to the high-reliability 4K video capturing at 60 fps, the device is able to click clear, high-visibility images even when the digital zoom is in use.

 

3. The sensor supports a line-by-line HDR (high dynamic range) mode in whereby long exposure data and short exposure data are output separately for each line. This faciliates video capture even for high contrast images.  

 

Renesas also offers a reference board developed together with a camera module manufacturer which allows users to evaluate the performance of the CMOS image sensor. The company is also planning to work with camera module manufacturers so as to supply camera modules with a wide range of features like- HDR (high dynamic range) functions, vibration reduction (image stabilization) functions, wide-area monitoring functions, and autofocus functions.  

 

This would allow manufacturers to reduce the development period as well as development costs for new high perfromance network security camera products. Besides, the company will continue to expand its line of security camera solutions for security cameras by offering the CMOS image sensor along with microcontrollers. 

Samples of the RAA462113FYL are now available and mass production is scheduled to begin in December 2017.
