We have known Frederick Vandenbosch for coming up with the most appealing and useful technological innovations. This time he took inspiration from his kids using tablet devices that led him to build a gesture control device for television that is not only elegant but also very handy. The central part of this project is held by Model A Raspberry Pi along with a Pimoroni Skywriter HAT. For those who don’t know, Skywriter happens to be a near-field electrical sensor that can easily detect swipes, taps, gesture, and any other kind of 3D movements.
The best part about Skywriter HAT is that it will function normally even when you camouflage it beneath a sheet or any non-conductive material. What makes Frederick’s project a unique one is the finish with which he has designed this device. The case for the device is covered with sand and polished ply which makes it very suitable for your coffee table or central table near our sofa. Even the USB cable he has chosen for this device is a very artistic one.
The gesture control device interacts with TV using Linux Infra-Red Control (LIRC); Vandenbosch build his own IT led and IR receiver to transmit the signals between two devices. The two little holes that you see in front are actually these two devices.
