Renesas Electronics Corporation, a supplier of advanced semiconductor solutions, announced a new gate driver IC, designed to drive high-voltage power devices such as Insulated Gate Bipolar Transistors (IGBTs) and Silicon Carbide (SiC) MOSFETs for electric vehicle (EV) inverters. Gate driver ICs are essential components to EV inverters, providing an interface between the inverter control MCU…
STMicroelectronics simplifies SiC inverter designs
STMicroelectronics has released two STPOWER modules that contain 1200V silicon-carbide (SiC) MOSFETs in popular configurations. Each uses ST’s ACEPACK 2 package technology to ensure high power density and simplified assembly. The first of the new modules, the A2F12M12W2-F1, is a four-pack module that provides a convenient and compact full-bridge solution for circuits such as DC/DC converters. Another module,…
Renesas unveils new-generation Si IGBTs for EV inverters
Renesas Electronics Corporation, a premier supplier of advanced semiconductor solutions, announced the development of a new generation of Si-IGBTs (Silicon Insulated Gate Bipolar Transistors) which will be offered in a small footprint while providing low power losses. Aimed at next-generation electric vehicle (EVs) inverters, AE5-generation IGBTs will be mass produced starting in the first half…
New motor-drive reference designs include STSPIN32 and production-ready PCB
STMicroelectronics has released two reference designs that simplify building complete industrial or home-appliance motor drives for compressors with the STSPIN32 motor-control system-in-package (SiP). Each integrates the motor controller with a three-phase inverter to power the motor, and an offline converter and auxiliary circuitry. A production-ready PCB design and motor-control firmware are also included. The STEVAL-CTM011V1 targets general…
What is the difference between a UPS and an inverter?
Electricity is a must for electronic devices to power up and run smoothly. However, even minor fluctuations from a power source can be hazardous to the devices and appliances that rely on it. Although many of us take electricity for granted, to conserve power in certain cities, supplies are cut short for set intervals —…
Insight – How Electronic Ballast works
Electronic ballasts are gradually replacing conventional magnetic ballasts (commonly known as choke) from the fluorescent tubes. They have higher efficiency as compared to magnetic ballasts and provide a flicker free start up to the tube. Also it does not produce the ‘hum’ sound which is very annoying with the magnetic ballastElectronic ballast uses semiconductor components and operates at 20 KHz-80KHz unlike the magnetic ballast which operates at 50 -60 Hz. At high frequency the lamp requires less input power, thereby increasing the efficiency. When power supply enters in to the ballast circuit, it first goes through an EMI filtration to block the ballast generated noise. Capacitors are used for the same.
40W Inverter
An inverter is a device which converts Mains (AC Supply) to DC and charge the battery when Mains is available and converts back DC from battery to AC supply when supply of Mains is not there. It is now become a very important part of Indian houses. Material Required 1. Zero PCB 2. …
Transformerless 1-Phase Multilevel Photovoltaic Inverter
Abstract- For low-voltage dc energy sources, a power conditioning system (PCS) is needed to convert the energy sources to a higher-voltage dc before making it to ac for grid tie applications. Fuel cells and Solar photovoltaic (PV) are perhaps the most well-known and prospective energy sources with low voltage dc output. A thermoelectric generator,…
