Digitalization has significantly shifted us toward a paperless society, impacting both personal and professional lives. Take restaurants, for example, where many establishments now offer digital menus. Providing a digital option offers several advantages to restaurant owners, their customers, and the environment. It reduces paper waste, allowing for an interactive experience and real-time updates for the…
How to build a paint application using Arduino
In this project, we’ll build a paint application on Arduino UNO/Arduino Mega that runs on a 3.5-inch TFT touchscreen display based on the ILI9486 driver. The ILI9486 touchscreen has a display resolution of 320×480 pixels. Using a stylus, you can draw, paint, and write on it (even in your own handwriting ). Required components Arduino…
New maXTouch KoD controller enables innovative HMI solutions
Many automotive and industrial touch human-machine interface (HMI) designers are looking to merge the benefits of a mechanical rotary encoder input with the flexibility of modern multi-touch displays. To this end, Microchip Technology is announcing the maXTouch Knob-on-Display (KoD) family of touchscreen controllers. This is the first automotive-grade touchscreen controller family to natively support the…
STMicroelectronics’ new touchscreen controller for smartphones enables longer runtime
The FingerTip FTG2-SLP touchscreen controller from STMicroelectronics enables advanced features to support the latest active-matrix organic light-emitting diode (AMOLED) displays that promise more power-saving and extended runtime in smartphones. Low-temperature polycrystalline oxide (LTPO) AMOLED displays, and similar proprietary equivalents, dynamically control the display refresh rate according to usage. While refreshing more slowly with the less demanding…
Microchip launches advanced, automotive maXTouch touchscreen controller
As the automotive market continues to demand larger touchscreens with more flexibility in size and shape, Microchip Technology has launched a new maXTouch touchscreen controller, which lets automotive designers satisfy various and unique aspect ratios for touch displays in cars. This new offering includes additional functional safety support specifically requested by OEMs. The MXT1296M1T can reconfigure its…
Microchip adds to its safety-certified family of maXTouch touchscreen controllers
Networked and connected home appliances enable users and manufacturers to communicate with them via the internet. For example, the user of a kitchen oven might look up a new recipe online or a manufacturer might perform remote diagnostics or over-the-air firmware updates. Displays and touch sensors are essential for enabling this functionality in modern appliances.…
Interfacing 4-wire Resistive Touchscreen with ATMega16 Microcontroller- (Part 46/46)
In this tutorial we’ll learn how to interface a 4-wire Resistive touch screen with ATmega16 microcontroller. Touch screens are two dimensional input devices. Nowadays most of the electronic gadgets use them. Laptops, smart phones, tablets and even some home appliances like washing machines & microwave ovens also use a touch screen nowadays. Touch screens are preferred over keypads because they need very little or no pressure to operate whereas the Keypads/ buttons need a minimum pressure to operate and our hands start aching after some time of continuous usage. One more great advantage in using a touch screens is that it enables us to make more room for the screen itself instead of wasting the space on the permanent keypad. That’s the reason for our smart phone’s screens to become big enough to browse web pages also and still fit in our pockets.
Multi-touch Screen Technology
While we are all fascinated by the touchscreen-market gimmick cajoling us with its ‘Touch away’ tagline, are we actually only at an inch’s distance? This ‘no-distance’ de facto makes sense at the front end only. When given a hawk’s eye, there is another world inside waiting to be discovered, waiting to satiate your knowledge for technology. Well, for the smart gadgets with smart people in the smart world, it’s an uncanny missing out a discussion on Touchscreen Technology, specifically undertaking the Multitouch Technology. The multi-touch or the plural touch is an interactive technique which allows users to interact with the digital environment inside the gadget, directly or indirectly with his fingers or palm. Multi-touch devices include smart phones, touch tables, computer tables, public kiosks, walls, and ‘touchpad’. Well these inverts in touchpad bring us to a minute line of demarcation between touchscreen and touchpad.
