Texas Instruments has unveiled a new single-chip reinforced isolator featuring integrated power offering 80% higher efficiency than the existing integrated devices. The new isolator carries the industry’s most efficient power transfer, lowest radiated emissions, and highest immunity. Besides, it also supports reliable operation of industrial systems, such as automation, motor control, isolated power supplies, grid infrastructure, and test & measurement equipment.
As compared to other discrete solutions, the ISOW7841 isolator integrates both isolated data and power, thereby enabling a smaller bill of materials (BOM) and reduced board space. This, in turn, leads to an easier and faster system certification. It carries a three forward/one backward channel configuration and is the first device in its family with multiple devices that are expected by the end of 2017. These new devices add to the company’s isolation platform that supports highest isolation ratings, reliability, immunity, and performance.
Key Features
1. The ISOW7841 isolator brings down the device operating temperature by up to 40 degrees Celsius and offers:
• Higher power delivery
• Higher channel count
• Longer system lifetime
2. It combines reinforced isolation and DC/DC conversion in a single package thereby minimizing board space and cost. It supports an input voltage range of 3V to 5.5 V while delivering best 0.65W output power.
3. The isolator renders improved system signal integrity, minimized system noise, the highest level of immunity, and robust electromagnetic compatibility complying with the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) 61000-4-x standards.
Product Availability and Pricing
The ISOW7841 reinforced isolator with integrated power can be availed through the TI store and distributors in a 16-pin small outline integrated circuit (SOIC) wide-body package. It’s priced at USD 5.50 in 1,000-unit quantities.
