Do you know that you can easily reverse engineer a door lock? You can even modify those in order to control their opening and closing. Recently, James shared a specific technique using which a door can easily be used through Bluetooth-LE via an Android Phone. The story started when he faced some specific issues in his home office with respect to his kids. He is a tech guy whose office is filled with loads of hi-tech breakable, dangerous, and expensive things that could easily harm kids. In order to keep things safe, he bought a lock from a local hardware store, a simple one with an electronic keypad.
However, using code keys proved to be a tedious task for him and compelled him to find an easier way. Being a proficient guy, he managed to use Bluetooth (LE) via his Android phone for locking and unlocking the door in a single click. This eliminated the role of ley completely and made things pretty easier for the guy.
In order to perform this task, he reverse engineered the lock with the help of an Oscilloscope. He started by bringing-in an Arduino Uno device with BT-LE abilities in order to control the door lock. In order to lock or unlock the door automatically, he then created an Android app. The lock that he used for this purpose was a unique one but he believes a similar method can be used for other door locks as well.
