The existing smartphone, tablet, notebook, and camera markets were leveraged with power delivery. OEMs (Original Equipment Manufacturer) is always coming up with a new solution to overcome the power delivery issues, in a trial to this Maxim Integrated planning to introduce wide input voltage buck converter, Powers USB type- C transceivers in Next generation devices.
As an evaluation kit, they introduced MAX77596 buck converter. MAX77596 is designed for wide input voltage range and low quiescent current, and are ideal for battery powered applications. The next generation devices are designed to accept a high data rates and power transfer capability, they are coupled with USB type-C port and required low voltage supply rails to power necessary Type- C port controllers.
The MAX77596 helps in utilizing the PD (Power Delivery) voltage range of 5V to 20V now can generate an always on digital rail supply to the controller. Operating from a supply voltage of 3.5V to a maximum of 24V, the step down converter can regulate from traditional 5V USB power to 20V upper end of PD range.

Next generation gadgets like tablets, cameras, notebooks, and drones can easily evolve with Type- C with PD using the MAX77596 power supply. Previous versions of USB type-C port controllers has to compromise either in quiescent current, size, or input voltage range. New MAX77596 have a unique combination in wide input voltage range, compact TDFN package, and low quiescent current that results in smaller solution size and reduced design time for a two chip solution.
