8086 is a 16 bit powerful microprocessor introduced by Intel in the year 1978. It is also said to have marked the beginning of third generation of microprocessor. It has 16 bit architecture i.e., the internal registers and data bus are of 16 bits. The address bus however is 20 bits and hence can handle a maximum addressing of 1 MB. It is a 40 pin IC operating at 5V and frequency of up to 10 MHz.
