A repeater is a networking device that removes unnecessary noise from the received signal, then regenerates and retransmits the signal so that the signal can cover longer distances without degradation. A repeater with multiple ports is known as HUB.
Repeaters require a small amount of time to regenerate the signal, thus this can cause a propagation delay which can affect the network communication when there are several repeaters connected in a row.
