A RTC or a real time clock is a semiconductor chip/IC used in various systems to provide highly precise information about time and date with some other additional features. It plays a very important role in the real time systems like computer, digital clock, attendance system, digital camera etc. RTC’s may have internal batteries or use external batteries to keep the time and date information updated even when the systems power is turned off. A processor or controller is generally used to extract the values of time and date from its internal registers.
