An actuator is a mechanical device which takes the input energy (in the form of electric current, hydraulic fluid pressure or pneumatic pressure) and converts it into a motion. For example they are the part that takes the electric current in robots and makes the robot move, in industrial applications makes a machine move to perform an action, etc.
