Renesas Electronics Corporation recently announced the 32-bit MCU (Microcontroller Unit) featuring Bluetooth 5.0. This version of Bluetooth is meant for IoT endpoint devices like healthcare equipment and home appliances.
The combination of Renesas’ Trusted Secure UP and Bluetooth 5.0 on the most preferred RX MCU helps in the delivery of an optimized single-chip solution to customers. The most amazing thing about this single-chip solution is that it supports both wireless and system control communications while keeping the security wall high up against Bluetooth security risks like viruses, tampering, and eavesdropping.
The advanced RX23W takes root into Renesas’ RXv2 core. The latter is known for its exceptional computational performance with much improved DSP and FPU functions. It is capable of achieving a maximum clock frequency of 54MHz.
What does it do?
The RX23W is capable of providing complete Bluetooth® 5.0 Low Energy support along with mesh and long-range networking functions. It has also registered success in reaching the lowest level reception mode peak power consumption at 3.0mA.
- Complete Functional Support For Bluetooth 5.0 Low Energy: The RX23W provides complete support to long-distance communication with a long-range of 400m and 2 Mbps data throughput. It also supports full functionality of Bluetooth 5.0 Low Energy and mesh networking. Also, it is capable of achieving a 3.0 mA reception mode peak current along with a reception sensitivity level of 105 dBm @ 125 Kbps.
- Basic Protocol Stack Package Along With All Kind Of Standard Profiles: Along with the Bluetooth 5.0 basic protocol stack package, the firm is also providing API functions that comply with all regular profiles including an ESP (Environmental Sensing Profile), AIOP (Automation I/O Profile), HTP (Health Thermometer Profile) and so on. These profiles allow users to begin prototype development as well as evaluation instantly and speed up the development process.
- Absolutely Secure Communications MCU For IoT: The RX23W is capable of integrating its maker’s TSIP within its hardware security engine. Renesas has equipped its TSIP with strong encryption key management and hardware accelerators that securely booth the IoT devices of customers and secure them from all kind of security threats.
- Less Costing Through Integration: The RX23W comes with a dedicated Bluetooth® high-precision low-speed on-chip oscillator that eliminates any need for external capacitors and external matching circuits. Consequently, the BOM (Bill of Material) come down significantly.
In the words of maker
Daryl Khoo, the Vice President of Product Marketing, IoT Platform Business Unit at Renesas, said, “While devices with Bluetooth 5.0 Low Energy is not new in the market, Renesas adds value for this ubiquitous wireless technology with a twist: strong emphasis on security and privacy. The recent security concerns clearly show that the Bluetooth implementations are getting more complex as more core use cases are defined, and there is a strong need to address better, more secure connections. Renesas believes applications deploying Bluetooth 5.0 Low Energy capabilities will be complemented with our strength in hardware security, all within one MCU that can handle application, communication, and security. I am very pleased that Renesas is well-positioned to offer this with our flagship RX family which has a proven track record for reliability and safety.”
