A lot of design effort and complexity is included in the process of creation of industrial-grade microprocessor (MPU)-based system working on a Linux operating system. Even developers that excels in this arena need to spend a lot of time over PCB layout to ensure signal integrity for interfaces running on high-speed to Ethernet Physical Layer and DDR memory as its syncs with Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) standards. In order to eliminate thee customary design complications in given space Microchip Technology Inc.recently introduced a completely new System on Module (SOM) embedded with SAMA5D2 MPU.
The ATSAMA5D27-SOM1 has recently released ATSAMA5D27C-D1G-CU System In Package (SiP), it simplifies design by blending non-volatile boot memory, power management, high-speed DDR2 memory, and Ethernet PHY over a single sided, small Printed Circuit Board (PCB). The SAMA5D2 product family offers a highly adaptable design experience irrespective of the level of expertise of user. It doesn’t matter what kind of device is selected by customer, every single member of this family is backed up with Microchip’s customer-driven obsolescence policy that ensures availability to user as long as they need.
The Arm Cortex A5-based SAMA5D2 SiP placed over SOM PCB or placed separately, it will integrate 1GB DDR2 memory simplifying a given design by eliminating constraints of high-speed memory interface from the PCB. The impedance matching takes place on the package and not manually as development iis taking place. It allows the system to work properly at lower as well as normal speed operation. Three DDR2 memory sizes ranging from 128MB to 1 GB can be availed for SAMA5D2 SiP and has been optimized for care metal, Linux and Real-time Operating System (RTOS) implementations.
Microchip’s MPU32 business unit vice president adds that “SOMs shorten time to market by significantly reducing development time, software coding and debugging, allowing designers to concentrate on their application features. With this new SOM, customers can get to market faster with the latest technology from Microchip integrated into a single module. They are also getting a proven partner with global support and a long-term supply commitment.”
