We can set up, a control of power outlets of your home and in the cloud using raspberry pi running on windows IOT (Internet of Things), Xbee and Arduino. Here we are demonstrating an automated power outlet for our many household applications by making them automatic control without interference of cloud.
Let’s get started, we need an Xbee, Zigbee Router, Arduino UNO R3, Xbee Shield for Arduino and Arduino relay shield. Here I need to setup some home basic automation tasks that I have never done anything like this before and aim of the project is to control the home automation devices by connecting them to the power outlet and control them.
Home automation is a one of the major smart electronics categories that can span really simple to extremely complex tasks. It’s easy to be overwhelmed by the jargon and device standard, the simplest way to wade into home automation eliminates clutter and focus on your task.
Working Methodology
I have taken Xbee to transfer radio signals. One Xbee is coordinator connected to Raspberry pi and other is a router connected to a power outlet. We have to configure Xbees in AT mode by its firmware. To setup a receiver we need ZIgbee router, Arduino UNO R3, Xbee shield for Arduino and Arduino relay shield. Later on we need to setup server by using Raspberry pi-2 running on windows 10 IOT and Zigbee setup as coordinator. To control our home automation from across the world, we have to enable cloud services to our applications.
This kind of automation solves many real world problems, by adding additional sensors like light, and motion detector, we can turn on/off light that saves energy. Similar to this we can create many applications which we can make it automatic.
This is, of course, just a sample. To put it very simply, if you do something repeatedly, you can probably automate it one way or another. Just about everything that runs on electricity, and several things that aren't can be made smarter and possibly even hooked into a central system.
About: – Syed Sanoor is a windows developer from Chennai, he has an enormous knowledge on Windows IOT and Raspberry Pi, and he has a good command over Arduino board and coding on the Arduino board. His idea of making automated power outlets is a good approach for smart electronics and controlling through cloud services are also a great boon. He created a platform for many enthusiasts to work on and make experiment on this devices.
