We have seen a lot of alarm clock DIYs in the past at Engineers Garage, like the internet activated S.M.A.R.T alarm clock or the LED alarm clock, here is another one. We like alarm clocks because we know how important it is to keep up the spice, even in the morning blues. So this Alarm Pi here, like the name suggests, is RPI powered, connected to a series of basic components and controlled by a Python script.
Here’s the list of hardware you will need:
- 20×4 RGB Backlit LCD display
- I2C LCD Backpack
- 1.2″ 4-Digit 7-Segment display
- 2 Metal push buttons
- Rotary encoder
- TSL2561 Luminosity sensor
- MAX98306 Stereo 3.7W Class D Audio Amplifier
- 2 3″ 8ohm 1W speakers
You can make the case or order it online. It must have two holes in the side and top for buttons and speakers, respectively. You can read more about the details in the link below or watch the video.
Now coming to the cool bit. the features include Google calendar integration, travel time calculations, weather information display and converts it to speech, internet radio, automatic back light, web interface and home lighting integration. So basically, this alarm clock will figure out your work shift using your Google calendar, calculate the travel time and set an alarm on its own. You wake up to the weather information and radio FM playing your favourite music AND all the lights going on, with the alarm. WOW!
We are really impressed. Get the code and wiring instructions from the link and have a good morning, every morning!
