Amazon recently created a buzz in market for its “Airborne Fulfillment Center Utilizing Unmanned Aerial Vehicles for Item Delivery” patent as US9305280B1. In simple language, the American giant has patented a mothership for itself that will be capable of housing and controlling mini drones. One of the most noteworthy things about this patent is its ambition. It is capable of hanging in air at an altitude of 45, 000 feet and will move back and forth from fulfillment center with Amazon products, fuel, supplies, as well as team members.
The company also plans to make delivery from sky from a distance of 6-8 miles above the ground. The patent also states comprehensive details about delivery drones that fly from Amazon Fulfillment Center (AFC). All dimensions of these flying devices have been mentioned clearly in the document. Along with, the firm takes much more steps ahead of just present day motor and rotor technology. It says that , “fans, jets, turbojets, turbo fans, jet engines, and the likes may be used to propel the UAV.” its utilization in regular customer delivery has also been defined well in the patent with the help of logic flowcharts, block diagrams, and others. The product delivery will be made to customer only when he/she is in network range and the customer wants an AFC delivery.
The concept in itself brings up a large range of new possibilities. If Amazon decides to park its AFC outside a political rally or a sport event, imagine the number of customers it can target with products raining for customers from the sky. This also opens up gates for a high potential for drone technology development and various other methods that can be used in designing of flying vehicles, flying cars, jetpacks, and so forth.
