Epson and IDT Introduce New Timing Solution for Data Center and Telecom Applications to Address Noise Challenges

By Neha Rastogi April 18, 2017

Epson, the world leader in Quartz crystal technology, and Integrated Device Technology (IDT) have announced a new ultra-high performance timing solution. It aims to address the phase noise challenges in telecom and data center markets. The new solution integrates IDT’s 8V19N474 jitter attenuator and frequency synthesizer with Epson’s VG-4513 high-performance voltage-controlled crystal oscillator (VCXO). It provides best-in-class phase noise performance for highly stringent applications like 40/100/4000 Gbps Ethernet timing.

Talking about IDT’s attenuator and frequency synthesizer, it features an ultra-low RMS phase noise of 75 femtoseconds. This, in turn, hands over the system designers the clocking requirement for the transition from 28Gbps to Ethernet interfaces while using 56G PAM4 (TX) PHYs and other high-performance SerDes applications.

Besides, it generates up to 12 reference clock signals and outputs multiple high-performance synchronized clocks, thereby making it ideal for Ethernet and OTN (OTU3, OTU4) in complex applications as well as driving ADC/DAC converters, cable TV head-end, etc.

As far as Epson’s VG-4513 VCXO is considered, it’s an essential and proven component in the solution. It achieves very low close-in phase noise by using HFF (high frequency fundamental) crystal. Its integration with IDT’s 8V19N474 delivers exceptional phase noise at higher offset frequencies.

Availability

IDT’s 8V19N474 is available in an 8 x 8 mm 81- CABGA package while Epson’s VG-4513 VCXO can be availed in a 7 mm x 5 m x 1.6 mm or a 5 mm x 3.2 mm x 1.3 mm ceramic package.
