Graphene Flagship is pioneer in transfusing graphene’s magical properties into commercial technologies. The world recently viewed the launch of a commercial launch of a motorcycle helmet that has the advantage of graphene coating on to it. It has been created by a team of designers from Momodesign, a designing company, the Italian Institute of Technology (IIT), and the Graphene Flagship. The president of Momodesign, Marco Cattaneo says, “I started to read publications about graphene with curiosity and interest. Improve products in which safety is the most important aspect.”
The graphene coating over the exterior shell of the helmet ensures better thermal comfort and safety of the wearer. It also allows improved distribution of impact reducing the helmet’s vulnerability to collision damages even when mercury is on rise. The safety standard of this one is much better than the regular helmets. The helmet comes with exceptional thermal conductivity properties that dissipate heat instantly across its surface and protects the inner layers and materials from any negative impact of heat. Users can stay assured of more comfort during summers as compared to normal conditions.
Bedimensional, a spin out company, is one of the major supporters behind this commercial expansion of Graphene Flagship. The first slot of this product includes 3000 helmets that will be hitting major motorcycle showrooms for sale. The helmets are being manufactured in a facility located in Italy, here; the graphene-coating process has been fused directly in the existing product lines. Vittorio Pellegrini, the Director of IIT Graphene Labs and the head of Executive Board of the Graphene Flagship, adds, “We developed a process fully compatible with that used by Momodesign for their standard helmets.”
Andrea Ferrari, the Graphene Flagship’s Science and Technology Officer and the Member of Graphene Flagship Management, further explains, “This is an excellent example of what is at the core of the Graphene Flagship mission: to take graphene, related layered materials and hybrids from a state of raw potential to a point where they can revolutionize multiple industries, with a manifold return on the European investment, both in terms of technological innovation and economic exploitation. Over the next few years we will see more and more products enabled by graphene reaching the market, thanks to the support of the Graphene Flagship”
